“I look to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth and mountains!” Psalm 121 1-2 MSG
A couple of times a year, a few of the more adventurous types among us organise a camping and hill walking trip and our team is affectionately called ‘The Bear Stranglers’. A few years ago someone asked what we do when we go away – ‘Strangle bears!’ someone replied – and the name stuck!.
Our weekends away are a great opportunity for fun and fellowship, away from our busy lives, and a great chance to sample some of the UK’s wonderful countryside. We have had trips with just 2 of us, to some with nearly 30!
We usually arrive at our chosen destination sometime on a Friday, and sample some of the local delights in a country pub. Then after breakfast we tend to walk most of the day, before returning to base for a well earned rest! Then on the Sunday we do a short walk before returning home. The weekend usually flies by in an instant!
The weekends are a men-only thing, but kids (10+) are welcome with their Dad!, we feel it’s a good chance for guys to get to know each other better, but also good for kids to push them selves, maybe get wet and cold, and spend a bit of time with their Dad and friends.
If you want to come along on our next trip, you are very welcome to! Speak to Matthew Stannard (Worship Leader) for details.
